CD RELEASES

I Am a Tree - released 2005

The album was recorded and produced by the band at Redwood Recording Studios in Australia and contains 12 tracks of which eight are original tunes. The album has received great reviews due to the politically sharp satire and humor in the tracks - Election Shuffle lampoons the "dance" politicians perform every few years to get themselves elected whilst I Am a Tree contemplates the tree's perspective amidst global destruction of our native forests.

Humorous, sharp and politically savvy, this is a very entertaining album professionally produced and oozing with groove.

Big George Brock

Round Two

Recorded "live" with no overdubs on May 12 and 13, 2006 at Electric Catfish Studio in Oxford, Mississippi using Jimbo Mathus' vintage mics. Big George Brock played Hohner harmonicas. Hubert Sumlin played vintage Gibson gear.

The night before the start of these sessions, Brock performed at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis. He hit the stage wearing a big, shiny cape over his always-stunning suit. By the end of the song, he was rolling around on the floor blowing harp as two dozen photographers pressed against the stage. The night after the Round Two sessions, Brock performed with guitar legend Hubert Sumlin at world-famous Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale. The two days in-between held moments of pure magic.

NEWS FLASH

Redbone has a "Bone to Pick"

(Butte, MT) The band that headlined the Butte-Silver Bow Fair earier this month is accused of masquerading as the rock group Redbone (pictured at left), which released albums in the 1970s and is perhaps best known for the song "Come and Get Your Love."

The band at the fair performed under the name Redbone, but the real Redbone was playing in Wisconsin, said Ron Kurtz, Redbone's manager.

"I've been in the business for 40 years, and I've never ran into anything this blatant," Kurtz said from his office in Burbank, Calif. He said the fair board was conned.

Fair officials dealt with a man who identified himself as Denny Freeman and said he was a co-founding member of Redbone.

Pat Vegas, who founded Redbone with his brother, Lolly, in 1968, said he had not heard of Freeman.

The fair board is investigating and will consult the county attorney, Chairman Dave Palmer said.

"The whole thing was fishy from the start," Palmer told The Montana Standard. Only two performers showed up at the fair, he said, and they claimed other band members were missing because they were sick with mumps. Local musicians filled in.

Palmer and the manager of Redbone said they had been unable to contact Freeman.

"He's on dangerous waters, because he's messing with my name," Vegas said.

A call seeking information from Palmer, about payment for the band that played, was not returned immediately.

Black Snake Moan

Samuel L. Jackson co-stars in the upcoming movie "Black Snake Moan" as Lazarus, a farmer and blues musician who tries to help Rae, an anxiety-ridden victim of childhood sexual abuse played by  Christina Ricci. Justin Timberlake will play the part of Ronnie.

Black Snake Moan is written and directed by Craig Brewer (writer / director of Hustle & Flow ) and due for release in February.

Hurricane on the Bayou

The IMAX movie "Hurricane on the Bayou" will make it's world  premiere on August 29th. Bluesman Tab Benoit has been involved with the movie since it's inception prior to the storms.

This movie will premiere in New Orleans as well as Los Angeles with the rest of the country getting full release  later this year. It's time to get the issues out on the biggest screen  available.

Check out the film at Entergy IMAX theater in New Orleans.  For more information on movie screening times, please visit the Audubon  Institute web site for more details, www.auduboninstitute.org

Zooey Deschanel To Play Janis Joplin

Zooey DeschanelZooey Deschanel has beaten Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and Scarlett Johansson to the coveted role of Janis Joplin in the forthcoming movie biopic of the tragic singer. Pop punk Pink was originally director Penelope Spheeris' first choice to play the late rocker, but pulled out.

Now, Deschanel, 26, has signed to play Joplin in "The Gospel According To Janis," which starts filming in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in November. Joplin died of an heroin and alcohol overdose in a Hollywood hotel room in October 1970 at the age of 27.

Stones to play Bill Clinton's birthday bash

The Rolling Stones will play a special fundraising show in New York to mark the 60th birthday of Bill Clinton, it has been announced.

Mick Jagger and company, who are currently on the European leg of their Bigger Bang world tour, are scheduled to appear at the Beacon Theater on October 29.

The concert will apparently now act as the party for Clinton, whose actual birthday is on August 19, and a fundraising event for his charitable foundation.

According to reports in the press, the evening will also be filmed by legendary movie director Martin Scorsese, who helmed last year's acclaimed Bob Dylan documentary No Direction Home.

Blues Artists on the Rise

The first "Blues Artists on the Rise" will be announced in next week's e-guide.  Stay tuned
