CD RELEASES

Full Circle

Guitarist–vocalist WALTER TROUT released on June 20, 2006 his first new studio work in five years, FULL CIRCLE. The landmark effort is the realization of Walter’s long held dream to invite musician-friends from his 35+ year career to compose and play together with him. Featured artists include John Mayall, Coco Montoya, Bernard Allison, Jeff Healey, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Sardinas, Guitar Shorty, Junior Watson and James Harman and others.

"Full Circle” is a journey within the range of styles that is the blues genre. “Full Circle” is about sharing that format honestly and with integrity.

"Full Circle" is not just another Walter Trout CD!. It' is a celebration of where the blues world is, where it has been and where it is going. Walter's focus with "Full Circle" is to break down artificial barriers between the music of "blues purists" and “blues rockers”.

Big Easy Boogie

Pianist/vocalist Mitch Woods brings together an unsung inner circle of Rock'n'Roll royalty, the original members of the Fats Domino band. This band features the architects of American music, the veritable founding fathers of Rock'n'Roll who laid the musical bedrock at J&M Studios in New Orleans in the early 50s that launched so many stars.

Woods reunited these legendary players along with others who still play in the Fats Domino band and composed a batch of original tunes modeled after the original Fats Domino material.

This double package includes a complete Big Easy Boogie CD featuring 12 original songs penned by Mitch Woods featuring special guests Maria Muldaur, John Mooney, and Charmaine Neville. The result is a rollickin' gumbo of New Orleans rhythm & blues that is true to the roots of the Mississippi mud from which it sprang.

NEWS FLASH

HOUSE OF BLUES sold to Live Nation

Live Nation, Inc. the world's leading purveyor of live music, recently announced it has entered into a merger agreement to acquire HOB Entertainment, Inc. for an aggregate purchase price of $350 million. The closing of the transaction is expected by the end of 2006.

HOB operates 10 venues under the House of Blues brand in cities such as Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago and Orlando, and eight amphitheaters in cities including Atlanta, Toronto, San Diego and Dallas. The acquisition will allow Live Nation to expand its presence in the growing mid-size venue business and fill in geographic gaps in its existing amphitheater network.

"This represents a compelling opportunity to grow our brand and accelerate the expansion of our club business, both in the United States and abroad," said House of Blues Chief Executive Officer Greg Trojan. "Together, we will be able to take live music to a new level, delivering more music on more dates in more local venues."

Dan Aykroyd, co-founding Director of House of Blues Entertainment Inc., is delighted at the impending acquisition of House of Blues Clubs and House of Blues Concerts, Inc. by Live Nation Inc., .

Aykroyd says, "This configuration will be a great fit for the growth of the brand originated by myself and Isaac Tigrett in 1994. If anything, House of Blues is a survivor. Although my own capital investment will not quite be the bonanza which my advisors might have hoped for, the important thing is that the majority of our 2,000 employees will now be assured of a bright future in a well funded company posed for exciting expansion."

House of Blues Radio Hour with Elwood Blues is not expected to be effected by the sale.

THE BLUES BRINGS GREEN TO THE DELTA

ClarksdaleTwo years ago, Stan and Dixie Street left their home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to live in an old shoe store in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

It's not as crazy as it sounds. The Streets, both artists and blues musicians, are among a number of people who came to the Mississippi Delta to attend one of the region's dozen or so blues festivals, then saw opportunity in the Delta's musical heritage and cheap property.

Realtor Joe Middleton has been selling property in Clarksdale for nearly three decades. "We've sold 20 to 25 buildings downtown in the past two years. It's all because of the blues," he said. "In the last two or three years, I've sold more downtown than in the 26 years before." Wisconsin, Missouri, and other places.

TWO BLUES ARTISTS AMONG THOSE RECEIVING NATIONAL HONORS40th Anniversary NEA logo with the legend: 40th Anniversary, National Endowment for the Arts, Established in 1965

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has announced the 2006 recipients of the NEA National Heritage Fellowships, the country's highest honor in the folk and traditional arts. Eleven fellowships, which include a one-time award of $20,000 each, are presented to honorees from nine states.

These awardees were chosen for their artistic excellence, cultural authenticity, and contributions to their field.

Included in this years honorees are:

Henry Gray; blues piano player, singer; Baton Rouge, LA

Mavis Staples; gospel, rhythm and blues singer; Chicago, IL

National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Dana Gioia said, "This year marks the first time that a daughter and father will have been honored individually with a fellowship. Mavis Staples's father, Roebuck "Pops" Staples, received a fellowship in 1998."

Another feature of this year's fellows is the extensive time some of the artists have been refining their craft. Henry Gray began playing blues and boogie-woogie piano at age 12 in the social clubs around Baton Rouge.

The 2006 awardees will come to Washington D.C. in September for a series of events including a banquet at the Library of Congress and an awards presentation on Capitol Hill as well as the concert scheduled for Friday, September 15.
