CD RELEASES

Hollywood Blue Flames

The Hollywood Blue Flames emerged from the smoldering embers of The Hollywood Fats Band, led by guitarist Michael "Hollywood Fats" Mann, who almost single-handedly ignited a traditional blues revival in the '70s. Their new release, now with guitarist Kirk Fletcher, features two previously un-recorded songs co-written by Fats and Blake, collaborations with Junior Watson and Kim Wilson; and a FREE BONUS CD of vintage live performances with Fats, including appearances by Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson and Roy Brown!

Last Call

"Last Call" captures Lynwood Slims flawless blend of deep blues roots with sophisticated jazz and swing influences. Featuring guitarists Kid Ramos, Kirk Fletcher, Armando Cortez and mandolin virtuoso Rich Delgrosso, this release exhibits Slim's mastery of blues harmonica, both the "little harp" and the more difficult chromatic; catch original lyrics and captivating blues vocals; along with songs written by Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Joe Turner, and Bo Diddley making this his finest release to date.

2006 Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival

Breaks Records
Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival presented by First Tech Credit Union

PORTLAND, Oregon - Great weather and a stellar line-up of more than 150 performances combined to set a new fund-raising record at 2006 Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, presented by First Tech Credit Union. Blues fans donated $545,000 at the gate at this year's five-day festival. The previous record, set in 2003, was $364,000. All donations benefit Oregon Food Bank's mission to eliminate hunger and its root causes.

Mother knows Music Best

HELENA, Arkansas - A town built on the rich soil of delta heritage which bore the fruit of legendary musicians and nationally known festivals announced that a new music festival has taken root. "Mother's Best Music Fest" has placed roots in the historic Helena with the announcement of the launch of the festival on August 19, 2006 from noon to 7:00P.M.

The Mother's Best Music Fest is based on the tradition of one man band and cigar box musicians who construct their own instruments. Helena was home to one of the most recognized figures in this genre Doctor Isaiah Ross.  "Helena had music innovators that gave birth to the blues, artist that built their own instruments, or created a new style like Dr. Ross" commented Terry Buckalew, "A festival that celebrates musicians who are innovators both in style and unique instruments should feel a linage to the musical heritage of Helena. This was the inspiration behind the festival's name which originated with the 1940's radio show in Helena that featured musical innovators from the region."

The free festival will feature live music from recognized one man bands and artists who perform on instruments of their own creation. Completing the experience will be an instrument demonstration area showcasing unique instruments and a delta folk art exhibit hosted by Cat Head Delta Folk Art. The event will be held at the Cherry Street Pavilion in downtown Helena on Saturday, August 19 from noon to 7:00P.M.
