Los Lonely Boys  - Live at the Blue Cat Blues

Prior to selling millions of records, touring with Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana,  and the Rolling Stones, and winning a Grammy for the hit single “Heaven”, the brotherly trio Los Lonely Boys was just another bar band playing small stages across Texas hoping to someday get their “big break”.  In late summer of 2000 the band secured its first ever show in Dallas at a “Stevie Ray Vaughan Birthday Jam” presented by Blue Cat Blues, a local venue.  Kevin Wommack, the band’s manager called the venue to ask if they would take a chance (sight unseen and unheard) on three young brothers from West Texas – his heartfelt words, “I know you will love them” somehow struck a chord and, with a leap of faith, the boys were added to the show.  The rest, as they say, is history.

The boys’ jaw- dropping performance that evening was captured on Los Lonely Boys - Live at the Blue Cat Blues (Blue Cat Blues Records), a rare collection set for release on February 14, 2006.  Recorded live in an intimate club setting, the CD exhibits the explosive energy of Henry Garza's guitar playing in contrast to the smooth harmonizing vocals of a young band of brothers primed and destined for success.  The twelve-track disc contains nine previously unreleased songs, several off which have since become staples of LLB’s live stage shows.

King muDDfish - No Cover

The newest CD “No Cover” (Jan 2006) features all original blues tunes by King muDDfish and establishes the group as a distinctive and genuine band. It shows that King muDDfish is like nothing else out there. Great original tunes, instrumental mastery, a simple mixture of bravado with a touch of self-deprecating humor balance “No Cover” in a way that will prove King muDDfish to be the champions of a new eclectic blues movement.

Bernard Allison  2-CD-set from Ruf Records. Recorded live at the MUSA in Göttingen/Germany, 20th October 2005. Fans everywhere have been begging him to put out a new live project. It's no wonder that Magic Slim & The Teardrops, considered by many to be "the last real Chicago blues band," have become one of the busiest and best-loved touring units today. This live recording, taped in 2005 at the Sierra Nevada Brewery, showcases Slim's slashing, vibrato-drenched guitar and mountain-moving vocals, and presents an authentic South Side, back-alley excursion into the true blues. NEWS FLASH

Singer Patti LaBelle weeps on stage as she struggles through show Rhythm-and-blues diva Patti LaBelle struggled through a weekend show after taking the stage at midnight, at one point sitting down and crying. "I've never been this embarrassed in my life," LaBelle told the crowd Saturday at the Riviera Beach Jazz and Blues Festival. "This sucks. It's the worst show I've ever done in my life."

As temperatures dipped into the low 50s, LaBelle explained that she's nearly 62 and has diabetes and a heart murmur, and the cold weather simply wasn't agreeing with her. The Grammy-winning singer tried to belt out a few notes, then told fans huddled under blankets that she understood if they walked out on her.

A steady stream of people left the show during her 45 minutes on stage after having waited hours through opening acts. "I've never ever given you less than I can give. I'm gonna give you everything you deserve," she said. LaBelle struggled through "Lady Marmalade" with assistance from a few in the crowd, sang some gospel songs and "On My Own" before retreating.

The Blues Music Foundation Announces Major Blues Grants; Nearly $200,000 to be Distributed to Organizations Dedicated to Keeping the Blues Alive
The Blues Music Foundation, a non-profit organization launched during 2003's "Year of the Blues" celebration, is set to distribute this year $195,000 in grants, a foundation spokesperson announced today. The money is to go to organizations and museums that celebrate and preserve the blues, one of America's most important music treasures.

The available money comes from the net proceeds of the "Year of the Blues" kick-off concert, held at Radio City Music Hall in February, 2003, and from CD/DVD royalties of the critically acclaimed 2004 blues documentary, "Lightning in a Bottle", directed by Antoine Fuqua and executive produced by Martin Scorsese.

"We are very excited about the opportunity to distribute funds to blues organizations that are dedicated to keeping the blues a vibrant music form in the 21st century," said Robert Santelli, Executive Director of the Blues Music Foundation and EMP's Artistic Director. "The Blues Music Foundation extends its gratitude to the many great blues artists who played the concert and appeared in the film, and to Martin Scorsese, whose generosity and vision have been the cornerstones of this fund-raising effort."

The Blues Music Foundation is currently accepting applications to underwrite projects that promote blues education, assist organizations with special blues-related needs, and support other worthy blues causes.

Applications and funding criteria are available online at www.EMPlive.org/BMF or by writing to: The Blues Foundation c/o Experience Music Project, 330 Sixth Avenue North, Suite 200, Seattle, WA 98109. Applications must be postmarked no later than July 31, 2006. Grant winners will be announced in the fall.
